]]> Fashion icon Anna Wintour has been the editor-in-chief of Vogue for more than 30 years. Her career began in 1988 and since then she has become one of the most influential people in the fashion world and we always want to hear the tips she has to share.

The official Youtube channel of Vogue has published a series of videos titled Go Ask Anna that feature Wintour answering the questions asked by fans. In one episode, she was asked to say what are, in her opinion, 5 closet staples every woman needs to have. Wintour’s answer consisted of four neutral items and one that was unexpected. Here they are.

  1. A high-quality coat.
  2. A pullover, which she believes is essential.
  3. An amazing pair of pants or a skirt. Note that she is a firm believer in owning high-quality, neutral items that can be mixed and matched.
  4. An impeccable pair of shoes.
  5. Something that shows off your personality. For her, that’s usually jewelry.
