In order to make it to the apprenticeship, forty hopefuls must first battle against each other in a design apprenticeship at Nike’s New York Headquarters. Those who make it to the end will voyage to Nike’s Global Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon for seven months to create a capsule collection with Williams herself and several other Nike designers. Williams says, “I wanted to introduce a special collection and with my role in Nike and what I do just in general, I always want to make sure that we are able to increase diversity and inclusiveness. I thought it was a great way to partner with them.”

Besides creating a beautiful and unique collection with some of fashion’s best newcomers, the goal of the apprenticeship is really to encourage more diversity in the industry. John Hoke, Nike’s Chief Design Officer, says, “Diversity is our advantage. So we will continue to build the most diverse creative network we can possibly find.”

Nike and Stranger Things are teaming up once again to release a pair of sneakers which would elevate you to Steve Harrington-level of cool.

At the end of June (a week before the third season of the series premiered on Netflix), the shoe company dropped a pair that featured the colors of Hawkins High School (green and orange), as well as its tiger mascot.

Three weeks later, a collection of three pairs called the OG Pack was released in red, blue, and white, symbolizing Independence Day (season 3’s premiere date) and the number 1985 on the heel in tribute to the show’s current timeline.

Now, Nike has a third pair in honor of Starcourt Mall and the Upside Down which lurks beneath…

In tribute to the latter, the shoes feature a removable top layer that can be burned off to reveal a different color underneath.

The Stranger Things x Nike Upside Down Pack is available on August 13th.

Although best known for selling artwork, Sotheby’s collaborated with Stadium Goods to auction 100 pairs of the rarest sneakers ever produced.

Amongst the prized collection was one of the very first pairs of running shoes ever produced by Nike.

Bill Bowerman, who founded the brand and was also a track coach, designed the shoes for runners at the 1972 Olympics trials, calling them “Moon Shoes.”

The pair was sold to investor and car collector, Miles Nadal, who paid $437,500 for them — a world record for a pair of running shoes at an auction. The previous record was $190,373 for a pair of signed Converse shoes said to have been worn by Michael Jordan in the 1984 Olympic basketball final.

Nadal didn’t stop there, however.

The Canadian paid $850,000 for 99 other pairs of rare or limited collection sneakers, including 2011 and 2016 versions of the Back to the Future Part II shoes which Nike created.
