Selah tells a newcomer Paloma they’re in charge of deciding how short their skirts will be and how high and tight their tucks will reign, and that they’re doing it for control over their own bodies.
That’s part of the reason why we often see Selah dressed in her cheerleading uniform, it’s just another aspect of her life that she had total control of.
Cinematographer Jomo Fray also told Variety they tried to dress her in purples and gold as a way of having “a real sense of regalness about her” because she’s “the king, queen, judge, jury and executioner at Haldwell.” Each faction in the movie had a specific color palette, while Paloma is dressed in neutral earthy tones that separate her from everyone else.
