London is finally making a name for itself, in terms of Fashion Week that is. The city with a historically lackluster cluster of catwalks deemed itself worthy of being in “the Big Four” this month with its designers ditching their typically stuffy, British air, and focusing on creativity, heritage, and politics.

At London Fashion Week 2019, British designers were sure that they were having their last fashion week while still part of the European Union. However, here we are arriving at 2020 with that decision still up in the air. The politics surrounding the move seem to have had a major impact on the collections that came out, with designers like the Irish-Chinese Simone Rocha building their line around proud heritages -and, what Brexit will mean for the Irish border. Even the iconic Burberry ditched their famous cross-hatch pattern and dug deep into the brand’s history to find inspiration from its Victorian origins.

Touching on women’s rights, Turkish designer Bora Aksu created his line as an homage to the Persian princess Taj Saltneh from the early 20th century who was a pioneering feminist.

The shows were overall extremely progressive, focusing on inclusivity and diversity in many ways. The future of fashion is here!
