]]> Thierry Mugler, the French designer who pushed boundaries and broke new grounds with his avant-garde creations, has passed away at the age of 73. Tributes poured in for the fashion icon from his fellow designers and A-list stars, who graced many high-profile red carpet events in his designs.

Mugler started designing clothes during his early twenties, and become an internationally recognized designer during the 80s and 90s thanks to the enormous success of his eponymous fashion house. He became a household name thanks to his next-level designs and embraced a futuristic and theatrical approach to haute couture like no one else before him.

Mugler shined his brightest while designing signature looks for some of the world’s biggest music stars, including Grace Jones, David Bowie, and Diana Ross. He also famously designed Demi Moore’s dress from Indecent Proposal and launched one of the best-selling perfumes of the 20th century, called Angel.

He retired from his brand in 2002 before returning as a creative adviser in 2013 and went on to work with everyone from Lady Gaga to Cardi B. He also designed costumes for Beyoncé’s I Am… World Tour and Kim Kardashian’s iconic dress for the 2019 Met Gala.

The news of Mugler’s passing was first reported on his social media and he died of natural causes.
