It’s an unspoken fashion law not to match your makeup to your outfit. You just don’t. It’s tacky and looks way too matchy-matchy. Until now. Gigi Hadid is breaking the law and showing us just how tasteful and chic it can really be -when done right that is.
The supermodel showed up to her sister Bella’s 23rd birthday celebration wearing a curve-hugging plaid bustier and pants set from Charlotte Knowles underneath a grey-green coat, layered with gold jewelry. And, of course, Hadid’s makeup (by the very talented Patrick Ta) was done to match her outfit: her eyelids sparkled with coordinating copper tones, her cheeks shimmered with highlight, and even her lips got in on the amber action.
What’s our takeaway here? That if you’re going to match your makeup to your clothes, you better look like Gigi Hadid. Just kidding. But, if this is a look that you want to try, take care to do it in a way that coordinates, but doesn’t look too overdone. (Notice that Ta did not match Hadid’s makeup to the green jacket or paint plaid on her eyelids.)
