Slimane’s return to the catwalk made it clear it’s time to wave goodbye to Céline we all know and love because he has a whole new take on this brand. Unlike his predecessor Phoebe Philo, who empowered women with her bland of masculine and feminine designs, Slimane is sticking to his dark, rock and roll aesthetic.

His new collection boosted 96 new looks, featuring an array of sparkling, party-ready looks that are completely redefining Céline’s image. Hedi Slimane doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with that. He didn’t enter this fashion house to imitate Philo and take over the essence of her work, but to try and honor it the best way he knows how.

“Respect means preserving the integrity of each individual, recognizing the things that belong to another person with honesty and discernment. It also means starting a new chapter. We arrive then with our own stories, our own culture, a personal semantic that is different from the ones of houses in which we create. We have to be ourselves, without any stance, against all odds,” explained Slimane.

Gaga made sure that the paparazzi were given a good look at the sleek black top-handle bag. She was spotted with it on several occasions, and showed the world it can be paired up with everything from an orange bodycon midi dress to a full-length black leather coat.

It’s not a coincidence that the Mother Monster became the first person to be spotted with Slimane’s Céline bag around her wrist. The two visionaries go a way back and Gaga was responsible for debuting several of his creations in the past.

“He gifted her the bag and it’s the first one from his new collection. Lady Gaga always supported Hedi at Saint Laurent. They’re really close friends and they have been since he photographed her for The Fame Monster album cover.” explained Gaga’s stylist Tom Eerebout.

Before he took the reins at Céline, Hedi Slimane served as the creative director for Saint Laurent. His ambition is to remodel the French fashion house from the ground up. We can’t wait to see what he came up with when Céline’s new collection debuts at Paris Fashion Week.
