Love him or hate him, Hedi Slimane is here – and his here to stay. Former creative director of Yves Saint Laurent recently took control of Céline, and fashion experts couldn’t wait to see what he has in store. They finally got the first look at his new collection during Paris Fashion Week, and it turned out to be as polarizing as everyone expected.

Slimane’s return to the catwalk made it clear it’s time to wave goodbye to Céline we all know and love because he has a whole new take on this brand. Unlike his predecessor Phoebe Philo, who empowered women with her bland of masculine and feminine designs, Slimane is sticking to his dark, rock and roll aesthetic.

His new collection boosted 96 new looks, featuring an array of sparkling, party-ready looks that are completely redefining Céline’s image. Hedi Slimane doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with that. He didn’t enter this fashion house to imitate Philo and take over the essence of her work, but to try and honor it the best way he knows how.

“Respect means preserving the integrity of each individual, recognizing the things that belong to another person with honesty and discernment. It also means starting a new chapter. We arrive then with our own stories, our own culture, a personal semantic that is different from the ones of houses in which we create. We have to be ourselves, without any stance, against all odds,” explained Slimane.
