McCartney ended her deal with LVMH’s competitor, Kering, last year, and bought back their 50% stake in her company. Reps for McCartney confirm that the designer will remain the majority owner and creative director, overseeing women’s, men’s, and children’s wear.

The fashion icon says that since gaining full ownership of her company, she has been propositioned by “various parties expressing their wish to partner and invest” however, “none could match the conversation” with LVMH owners and the father-son duo Bernard and Antoine Arnault. McCartney says that “the passion and commitment they expressed towards the Stella McCartney brand alongside their belief in the ambitions and our values as the global leader in sustainable luxury fashion was truly impressive.”

Arnault has said that this partnership is “…the beginning of a beautiful story together, and we are convinced of the great long-term potential of her House. A decisive factor was that she was the first to put sustainability and ethical issues on the front stage, very early on, and built her House around these issues.”

The first Fenty collection under the LVMH umbrella is set to debut in Paris later this year, and it’s a ground-breaking achievement for Rihanna. Her partnership with this global company makes her the first woman of color to lead an LVMH label.
