Stella McCartney Partners with Owners of Luis Vuitton, Christian Dior, and Givenchy

Stella McCartney has just announced a new partnership with French luxury conglomerate LVMH, in an effort to “accelerate [McCartney’s] worldwide development in terms of business and strategy.”

McCartney ended her deal with LVMH’s competitor, Kering, last year, and bought back their 50% stake in her company. Reps for McCartney confirm that the designer will remain the majority owner and creative director, overseeing women’s, men’s, and children’s wear.

Update on Stella x LVMH: [Swipe for their statement.] "The goal of this partnership will be for the Stella McCartney House to accelerate its worldwide development in terms of business and strategy…" •▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪• Please pay attention to the language: they're using carefully selected nouns like "partnership" as opposed to "ownership" for a reason… My reason for flagging this, is due to the fact that some of the erroneous reports from fashion journos (who don't understand how shares work) reduces the accomplishment of Stella's deal with @LVMH. •▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪•▪• Somehow, McCartney has found a way to retain control of her business, while leveraging the economies of scale of one of the biggest conglomerates in the world (#LVMH). This is not a textbook case of a designer "selling out"… this is a creative making money moves while maintaining control of her creation. It also further demonstrates that even the most powerful french fashion houses can see that innovative British designers, play a key role in this next chapter of global textiles manufacturing and sustainability. 💥THAT should be the headline. ❤🇬🇧✊🏽 //📸source: @LVMH #sustainablefashion #ethicalfashion #sustainableluxury #fashion #StellaMccartney #LVMH

The fashion icon says that since gaining full ownership of her company, she has been propositioned by “various parties expressing their wish to partner and invest” however, “none could match the conversation” with LVMH owners and the father-son duo Bernard and Antoine Arnault. McCartney says that “the passion and commitment they expressed towards the Stella McCartney brand alongside their belief in the ambitions and our values as the global leader in sustainable luxury fashion was truly impressive.”

Arnault has said that this partnership is “…the beginning of a beautiful story together, and we are convinced of the great long-term potential of her House. A decisive factor was that she was the first to put sustainability and ethical issues on the front stage, very early on, and built her House around these issues.”
