The Net Sustain will ensure customers that they are making eco-conscious choices by putting their selections through a six-step vetting process.

Very happy to have received this into my inbox today ? @netaporter has launched a new platform dubbed #netsustain for ‘brands that are driven by a desire to make fashion more sustainable’ ?? In a dedicated section of the #netaporter website, shoppers can shop from around 500 products from 26 curated brands including @marahoffman @veja @wwake @motherofpearl @stellamccartney and @maggiemarilyn. . . In order to be listed in the edit, products must meet at least one of five criteria: 1️⃣ locally made (at least 50% of the manufacturing process to be made in brand’s county of origin) 2️⃣ demonstrate craftsmanship and artisanal skills 3️⃣ ethical sourcing of materials 4️⃣ waste reduction and circularity 5️⃣ certified under a sustainable standard that covers processes or technology. . . The high-end clothing retailer will sell items under Net Sustain only if it meets these requirements:

  1. Considered Materials: “must take into account the welfare of people, animals, and the environment”
  2. Considered Process: “minimizes environmental impacts and considered the health of the worker and the wearer”
  3. Reducing Waste: “made using recycling or rescued materials”
  4. Locally Made: “directly connected to its provenance and its people”
  5. Craft and Community: “unique artisan skills…give something back to the community”

Circular fashion is becoming more popular and now Net Sustain will allow customers to purchase footwear, bags, swimwear, undergarments, jewelry, and athletic wear without worrying about the products’ negative environmental impact. Users will easily be able to identify products that fulfill the sustainability criteria by heading to the designated portion of the website or simply by checking to see if the item bears a special Net Sustain badge in its preview photo.
