HBO’s new show Euphoria not only stars Zendaya in a role that’s a far cry from her Disney Channel roots, but also features an array of insanely intricate makeup looks. The artist behind the beauty is Donniella “Donni” Davy and she’s revealed her inspiration behind her creations, as well as their deeper meanings.
Davy says that all of her looks are created with purpose and nothing is accidental. For instance, The character Maddy is wearing super sparkly eyeliner in the photo below, that’s reminiscent of a knife because she “cuts through everyone’s bulls*** in this episode.”
Like any true artist, Davy uses makeup as a way to express herself, saying, “Express yourself through makeup, however you want, at all times, despite what the mainstream says, and what conventional gender roles have been.”
Davy’s passion and innovation in the makeup world has inspired fans across the globe to try to replicate some of her looks.
More important than looking beautiful however, Davy’s work is encouraging others to be authentically themselves and not worry about anyone’s opinion, but their own when it comes to being happy with one’s aesthetic.
