How to Apply Foundation Like a Pro

Everybody wants flawless skin, but sometimes we need a little help and if you’re applying foundation, you want to be sure that people are complimenting your complexion rather than your makeup. In order to achieve that, here are some tips from top celebrity makeup artists Nina Park, Kira Nasrat, and Violette (as reported by Vogue).

Moisturize Big Time

Artists Nina Park and Kira Nasrat recommend using a sheet mask and massaging moisturizer into the face before makeup to “create a natural flush that makes the face look more awake.”

Decide on Priming

While some pros like Parisian artist Violette elect not to prime, others explain that it can ensure that foundation lasts all day – when applied correctly.

Nose to Cheeks

Violette insists that applying foundations sparingly is the key to success, “start in the center of the face, on the apples of the cheeks, and slowly blend out.”

Dab Dab Dab

Ensure full and even coverage by dabbing your makeup (whether you’re using a brush, sponge, or anything in between) rather than “painting.”

Highlight

Violette recommends using creamy highlighters rather than powders for a more natural look on the cheekbones, temples, and Cupid’s bow.

Finishing Touches

Use blotting papers to remove excess oil, then set your makeup with a translucent powder to keep foundation in place all day.
