Jean Paul Gaultier Launches “Fashion Freak Show” in London

The “freaks” have come out to flaunt in London, courtesy of Jean Paul Gaultier.

The French designer has brought his extravagant designs to the stage as part of the musical which encapsulates his life from the early days of his childhood to the fame which followed him on runways.

The 67-year-old’s life is no yawn, having begun his career in fashion alongside Pierre Cardin on the day of his 18th birthday. He founded his own label twelve years later, in 1982.

The two-hour spectacle, entitled Jean Paul Gaultier: Fashion Freak Show, features actors, dancers, and models wearing the designer’s most outrageous outfits while illustrating his memories and iconic moments over the last five decades.

Gaultier’s own team has described Fashion Freak Show as “part revue, part catwalk show,” that intends to “take an extravagant, yet tender, look at our times, inviting us into a world filled with excess, poetry and magic.”

Ooh la la.

The British run of the show is taking place in the Queen Elizabeth Hall at London’s Southbank Centre from July 25th to August 4th.
