Jelly Nails: Yay or Nay?

Nail trends are always coming and going: short is better, long is better, bold colors, muted, neon, white, black, French tips, acrylics, gels, powders, the list goes on. The best part about nails is that they grow so fast that you can try a new trend about once a week! So here’s a potentially controversial one for you: jelly nails!

Reminiscent of the infamous ‘90s jelly shoe, the jelly nail is a rubbery, transparent, acrylic alternative that is rocking the boat this summer. The trend is very interesting. It leans toward neon colors with shorter nails underneath however, the sky’s the limit with these, really. There have been many wearers who have done long nails underneath, darker colors, multi-colors, etc. And now even Selena Gomez is joining the bandwagon and showing off some jelly nails in a dark teal color.

To be honest, we can’t decide if we like them. On the one hand, they’re very on-trend with the ‘90s revival, but on the other, it’s a bit jarring to see someone’s real nails underneath their fake ones. It feels a bit like an unfinished manicure. But we’ll let you guys be the judges; check out some examples here.
