Met Gala has chosen some pretty interesting themes in recent years, and the next one will be the dreamiest one yet. “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” has been chosen as the theme of the Met Gala 2024 and it will celebrate the dormant fashion garments that rarely saw the light of day.

According to Vogue’s official statement, the Costume Institute’s next exhibition will put approximately 250 items from its permanent collection on full display. One thing that sets them apart from the rest of the Met’s collection is their dormant, underappreciated beauty since they’ve been rarely seen in public before.

“Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” will chronicle 400 years of fashion history, covering everything from 17th-century English Elizabethan-era designs to modern-day creators from 21st-century designers, such as Phillip Lim and Stella McCartney. It will also include designs from many fashion industry icons, from Elsa Schiaparelli and Yves Saint Laurent to Christian Dior and Hubert de Givenchy.

Andrew Bolton will be in charge of curating the new exhibition, which will be brought to life through modern technology. Video animation, light projection, and illusion techniques will be used to create an immersive sensorial experience, evoking the movement, feel, sound, and smell of each piece on display.

The “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibition grace the Metropolitan Museum of Art between May 10 and September 2, 2024, and the Met Gala on May 6, 2024, will serve as its grand opening.
