We got so used to seeing an “ugly” shoe trend season after season, that we’re not even surprised by the latest one. After Crocs, dad sneakers, and toe-loop sandals, this summer brings us the hit among the tourists — sport sandals.
Sport sandals are recognizable for wide straps, orthopedic rubber soles, and often utilitarian details.
They appeared on the fashion scene last year in Prada’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection, but it took a full year before they became a mainstream trend.
Fashion influencers are doing their best to incorporate the sports sandals into their usual outfits which means that Instagram is full of photos of them. Some women are going all-in, wearing them with socks for the ultimate “ugly” effect. Others try to dress them up by combining them with elegant dresses and skirts.
