“Euphoria” Costume Designer Explains How She Perfectly Captured Teen Spirit

Euphoria is one of the most talked-about shows of the summer, and the stylish wardrobe is one of many reasons why we love it so much. Costume designer Heidi Bivens did an amazing job coming up with outfits of our favorite characters and she managed to perfectly encapsulate teen spirit with each one.

Bivens’ main goal was to use fashion as a means of expression for Rue, Jules, and the gang, but it was also important to her that Euphoria reflects the reality of their generation.

“I was looking at real teens. I would go to high schools – not to be a creep – but I’d sit outside and watch teens when they would get out of school, just to see what was really going on with how they dress, how they have access to clothes and where they shop,” explained Bivens in an interview with Fashionista.

Bivens ended up using a lot of vintage pieces to capture the nostalgia of Gen-Z wardrobes and dive deep into the individuality of each character. It was also important to her to shed a light on aspiring young designers, so she reached out to many new labels based around the world.
