Since the beginning of 2021, Olivia Rodrigo established herself as the biggest fashion star of Gen-Z and she lived up to her reputation in her latest music video. The 18-year-old singer finally graced us with a video for “Brutal”, and this brief clip gave us major Y2K fashion vibes.

Directed by Petra Collins, who previously gave us an equally stylish music video for “Good 4 U”, the video for “Brutal” is the very definition of nostalgia overload. We can see Rodrigo go through countless wardrobe changes in under three minutes and they all look like straight out of a different era.

It’s no secret that Rodrigo has a soft spot for Y2K fashion and beauty, and she took things to a whole new level in “Brutal”. From bandana-wrapped buns and mall rat pigtails, her hair is always on point—and don’t even get us started on her outfits!

Rodrigo wasn’t kidding when she said she wants “it to be, like, messy” in the opening line of this song. “Brutal” is a Y2K time capsule, filled with plaid miniskirts, newsboy caps, bedazzled tanks, butterfly clips, beaded necklaces, and everything in between. At one point she even pays homage to Britney Spears in a sparkling Roberto Cavalli, and we truly couldn’t ask for more.
