]]>Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion has been chosen as the theme of this year’s Met Gala, and it’s all about celebrating garments that are too fragile to be worn again. The official dress code is “The Garden of Time”, so it’s safe to expect we’ll see a lot of floral dresses on the red carpet.
Vintage, archival looks will probably have a moment, as well, since the Costume Institute’s new exhibition aims to explore the cyclical themes of rebirth and renewal in fashion by displaying 250 garments and accessories spanning four centuries of fashion history.
Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour will return as the Met Gala’s co-chair, and she’ll be in pretty good company this time around. After taking the Met Gala carpet by storm on several occasions, Zendaya was finally invited to serve as one of the chairs, alongside Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, and Chris Hemsworth.
The Met Gala traditionally takes place on the first Monday of May, and it will return to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City on May 6.

]]>According to Vogue’s official statement, the Costume Institute’s next exhibition will put approximately 250 items from its permanent collection on full display. One thing that sets them apart from the rest of the Met’s collection is their dormant, underappreciated beauty since they’ve been rarely seen in public before.
“Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” will chronicle 400 years of fashion history, covering everything from 17th-century English Elizabethan-era designs to modern-day creators from 21st-century designers, such as Phillip Lim and Stella McCartney. It will also include designs from many fashion industry icons, from Elsa Schiaparelli and Yves Saint Laurent to Christian Dior and Hubert de Givenchy.
Andrew Bolton will be in charge of curating the new exhibition, which will be brought to life through modern technology. Video animation, light projection, and illusion techniques will be used to create an immersive sensorial experience, evoking the movement, feel, sound, and smell of each piece on display.
The “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibition grace the Metropolitan Museum of Art between May 10 and September 2, 2024, and the Met Gala on May 6, 2024, will serve as its grand opening.

Lagerfeld famously closed out every catwalk with famous “Chanel bride” dresses, and many stars at Met Gala honored this tradition by wearing white. Rihanna and Ava Max were some of the stars who looked positively bridal, and Dua Lipa even wore a custom 1992 Chanel dress.
Lagerfeld also used pearls in the most unexpected ways during his time as Chanel’s creative director, as a way of honoring the house’s founder Coco Chanel. Many stars at the Met Gala opted to wear pearly dresses, but Kim Kardashian ended up stealing the show.
