The point of items like this is to set apart the person wearing them from the others. They are somewhat controversial which is exactly why Instagram fashionistas love them. They provoke comments and reactions and attract attention to the person wearing them, and from that point of view, we’re not surprised they are such a big hit.

Sport sandals are recognizable for wide straps, orthopedic rubber soles, and often utilitarian details.

They appeared on the fashion scene last year in Prada’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection, but it took a full year before they became a mainstream trend.

Fashion influencers are doing their best to incorporate the sports sandals into their usual outfits which means that Instagram is full of photos of them. Some women are going all-in, wearing them with socks for the ultimate “ugly” effect. Others try to dress them up by combining them with elegant dresses and skirts.
